Why to make sure you get rid of a Fly Infestation?

Diseases Carried By Flies

Flies act as carriers of diseases since they are attracted to faeces which may be infected. Bacteria can be transported within the flies gut and actively spread during the feeding process or transported passively in the dense hairs on their body which means they can contaminate the things they land on.

Diseases can include:

In temperate regions;

  • Summer diarrhoea of infants
  • A variety of food poisoning organisms (Salmonella species)

In tropical areas;

  • Typhoid
  • Cholera
  • Dysentery
  • Malaria

Evidence of Fly Infestation

  • The presence of flies is normally made evident by seeing them or by reports form a customer.
  • Fly spots on upper areas of rooms (pipes, light fitting, etc.)

Methods Of Controlling Flies

Flies (adults and or/larvae) of most species can be controlled using one or several of the following methods:

Chemicals

  • Baits
  • Dusting powders
  • Sprays
  • Fogs
  • Aerosol mists

Controlling Flies

Correct identification of the species of fly is very important so that the breeding site(s) can be located. In all cases treatment programmes should be directed at both the larval and adult stages consecutively so that you can achieve effective and efficient control.
